Did You Know?
The Frayer Model is named after Dorothy Frayer, an educator and researcher at the University of Wisconsin who developed the strategy with colleagues in 1969. Designed to help students move beyond memorizing definitions, the model encourages learners to explore a word or concept through four areas: definition, characteristics, examples, and non-examples. More than 50 years later, the Frayer Model remains a widely used teaching strategy for building vocabulary and deeper conceptual understanding.
