Nothing says summer quite like a scoop of ice cream on a hot day. But have you ever stopped to think about how that creamy treat makes its way from the farm to your cone? Behind every delicious bite is a fascinating process that connects Alberta’s dairy farms, local creameries, and the people who love creating something sweet.
At its heart, ice cream starts with milk from dairy cows. Farmers work hard every day to care for their animals, ensuring they produce high-quality milk. This milk is then transported to processing facilities—like Foothills Creamery—where it’s turned into a variety of delicious ice cream flavours using a mix of science, craftsmanship, and a little bit of magic.

At the creamery, milk is pasteurized, cream is separated, and sugar, flavourings, and mix-ins are added. The mixture is then churned and frozen at just the right speed to create that smooth, creamy texture we all love. Finally, it’s packaged and shipped to your favourite store or ice cream shop, ready to bring a smile to your face.
