Ag for Life Brings Agriculture to Life in the Kitchen

Updated: Mar 7, 2020

CALGARY – Alta. – Agriculture for Life (Ag for Life) After 8 years of successfully running programs to teach Calgarian to grow, cook and preserve their food, Poppy Innovations’ programs will be offered by Ag for Life starting in March 2020.

The goal of building a healthier community for adults and children through interactive education and activity-based programs across the food spectrum, was a social enterprise of Poppy Innovations, a local management consulting business. President and CEO, Sharon McCormick was passionate about giving back to her community and modelling the importance of the private sector contributing to the well-being of their community. “Teaching Calgarians and their children the food skills and nutritional knowledge to make healthier choices is not the responsibility of any one sector, we all have a role to play,” says McCormick.

“The success of the programs deserves to be continued and expanded to meet growing demand” says McCormick who is moving on with her career in another direction.  With a focus on learning to grow, cook and preserve your own food, the programs that Poppy Innovations has become known for are synergistic with the programs already available by Ag for Life, an Alberta charity that focuses on the importance of agriculture and the role that it plays in our lives. As McCormick states, “After all, our food starts in or on the ground.”

Agriculture for Life is dedicated to providing agriculture education and fostering a deeper appreciation and understanding of the value agriculture plays in our lives. “We are very excited to add Poppy Innovations programs to the list of classes we offer to Albertans.  These programs will teach adults, children and families everything from growing and harvesting their own produce, to canning and preserving food, to cooking healthy and delicious meals,” says Luree Williamson, CEO, Agriculture for Life.

Agriculture for Life will continue to run the same great programs including our Parent-Child Culinary Program, Cooking with Colours, Kids Garden Club, Kids Cooking Bootcamps and many canning & preserving classes that focus on teaching fundamental cooking skills, healthy eating, and the benefits of knowing where your food comes from.
