A lab designed to explore questions such as, 'how will we sustainably feed a hungry world while reducing food waste and food insecurity?' and 'what role does agriculture play in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals?' These are just a few of the questions you will explore as you dive into the topic of SUSTAINABILITY.
Sustainability focuses on meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. The concept of sustainability is composed of three pillars: economic, environmental, and social—also known informally as profits, planet, and people.

Lab Lesson 1
As the prime connection between people and the planet, sustainable agriculture and food production have great potential to address many of our challenges and achieve our goals.
Food waste or food loss is food that is wasted, lost or uneaten. The causes of food waste or loss are numerous and occur at the stages of producing, processing, retailing and consuming. Global food loss and waste amount to between one-third and one-half of all food produced.
